AIUSA Field Organizers (FO) report to one of five Regional Directors, and are assigned states within which they are responsible for organizing and coordinating the work of AIUSA members and activists, consistent with Amnesty International's approach to human rights work. FOs support local member groups within their territory with recruiting and engagement events, human rights education and activist training. We currently seek a Field Organizer for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, located in Washington, DC.
Taking direction from the leadership at AIUSA, the FO plays a critical role in the development and implementation of regional responses to new or emergency human rights crises. Working in collaboration with Campaign and External Affairs staff, s/he organizes fundraising, public awareness, and campaign events, and serves as AIUSA's public representative for the assigned states. The FO also serves on internal inter-departmental campaign working groups, and is a key participant in the development and implementation of long-term regional campaign strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS: A BA plus at least five years of organizing, campaigns, field, political and member based experience, including working with diverse communities. Teambuilding, organizing, and excellent presentation skills are required. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, who can work with volunteer activists and members, as well as other AIUSA staff toward our shared goals. S/he must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, training and facilitating. The ability to speak a second language is desired. S/he must be able to travel up to 25% of the time and work on weekends and evenings as needed.
