Karamah, Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights, is an educational, charitable, (501)(c)3 organization committed to supporting human rights worldwide. Karamah envisions a world in which all human beings, regardless of their gender or other differences, enjoy their God-given rights of dignity, which cannot be achieved without liberty and justice. In particular, we seek to empower Muslim women to define their own contributions and forms of participation within their communities through legal education, leadership development, and enhanced understanding of Islamic law.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development and Programs Director will enhance our vision and mission by cultivating, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive development program that will increase and diversify Karamah’s donors and revenue. The Director will also oversee and manage Karamah’s events and programs. The Director will report to the Executive Director. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organize, plan, implement, and manage Karamah’s events and programs, such as the Law and Leadership Summer Program 2008
Develop budgets for events and programs
Prepare grant proposals
Draft reports to donors and grantors
Fundraise and cultivate a network of individual donors
Write solicitation and acknowledgement letters
Develop promotional materials
Seek and develop opportunities to enhance KARAMAH’s marketability by establishing strong corporate, foundation and individual relationships
Create and promote a media/marketing plan to increase name recognition and presence in the community
Provide training to the Board of Director and serve as a liaison in their fundraising efforts
Oversee Karamah’s membership program
Perform other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 3 years of development experience at a nonprofit preferred (Experience in endowment fundraising also preferred)
Event-planning experience preferred
Excellent organizational, management, and marketing skills
Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including cross-cultural communications
Strong work ethic
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently, take initiative, and multitask
Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
JD/MBA preferred
