We are seeking a PT (25 hours per week) Field Organizer for the Midwest Regional Office. This is a fixed term position for 12 months. Working closely with regional and national staff, the Field Organizer will oversee local group and student group activism in assigned states. This includes servicing functions, helping to develop new groups, and building the capacity of existing and new groups. Additionally, the Field Organizer will have the primary responsibility to recruit volunteer leadership in the states s/he oversees and train and evaluate these activists. The Field Organizer will be charged with connecting and integrating the work of Amnesty activists within and across each given state with the goal of creating a cohesive and strategic approach to achieving our human rights goals. The Field Organizer will be expected to develop expertise on topics in the states they oversee, including, but not limited to, human rights concerns and local and state legislation concerning human rights. The Field Organizer reports to the Regional Director.
Requirements include: BA degree or equivalent experience (3-5 years) in a grassroots organization, a minimum of 2-3 years experience in organizing, a commitment to multiculturalism, excellent oral and written communication skills, and intermediate computer skills. Driver's license required, as is some travel to assigned states. Training, facilitation, troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills are a plus. Foreign language skills desired.
