Berkeley: Infectious Diseases and Human Rights in Burma

Maude Fife Room, 315 Wheeler Hall
Thursday, October 25, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

In summer 2007 representatives of the Human Rights Center and Johns Hopkins University
released a report documenting how decades of repressive rule, civil war, and poor
governance have contributed to the spread of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and
other infectious diseases in Burma. For the report, researchers traveled to Rangoon
and BurmaĆs borders with China, Thailand, Bangladesh and India. Join them for a panel
discussion on their findings, recommendations and thoughts on the future given the recent
uprisings in Burma.

Chris Beyrer, MD, MPH, Johns Hopkins School of Public Health
Tom Lee, MD, Global Health Access Program
Andrew Moss, PhD, Professor emeritus of Epidemiology, UC San Francisco and
Human Rights Center, UC Berkeley

This event is free and open to the public
Sponsored by Human Rights Center and Center for Southeast Asia Studies
