Geneva: Accountant

Accountant (50% position)


COHRE is a Geneva-based international human rights organisation working to promote and protect housing rights throughout the world. COHRE has offices in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Brazil, the US, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Australia.

COHRE wishes to recruit an experienced Accountant to help manage its finances. The Accountant will be based in Geneva.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

Monitoring financial data input by COHRE offices using Quick Books Pro on-line
Managing accounts payable / receivable;
Processing of payroll, fee, expenses and other regular and occasional payments;
Consolidating monthly financial reporting from COHRE offices;
Monthly reconciliations/analysis of balance sheet accounts;
Managing overseas and local bank accounts, petty cash, cash-flow forecasting and financial reporting;
Other financial management functions and primary liaison for annual audit.

The ideal candidate will be someone with a high level of competence and extensive experience (preferably in the NGO sector) in bookkeeping, to balance sheet level. He or she will be highly motivated, able to work independently with a diverse team of enthusiastic human rights advocates. A requirement for the job is fluency in both written and spoken English. The ability to speak and write French is highly recommended. The candidate needs to have a valid Swiss work permit.

Salary will be negotiated according to experience.
