Project Coordinator Consultant for Human Rights Training

The Center for Justice & Accountability (CJA) is an international human rights organization dedicated to ending torture and other severe human rights abuses around the world and advancing the rights of survivors to seek truth, justice and redress.

CJA uses litigation to hold perpetrators individually accountable for human rights abuses, develop human rights law, and advance the rule of law in countries transitioning from periods of abuse.

Overview
CJA seeks to contract with a Project Coordinator to coordinate a pilot training program in Honduras. The Project Coordinator (PC) will have primary responsibility for the organization of a training program in Honduras for Honduran prosecutors and judges with instruction on how to litigate cases concerning human rights abuses. Key responsibilities include working with CJA staff to arrange for the participation of instructors and making logistical arrangements for the project, including securing housing, transportation and a location for the training. The PC will report directly to the Executive Director and will work closely with CJA's International Attorney and Legal Director.

The training will take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in Fall 2007, and will last 2 to 3 days. The pilot program will bring together attorneys, judges and professors from Latin America, Europe and the United States to share their experiences in prosecuting human rights cases, instruct Honduran prosecutors in international law, and discuss the numerous practical issues involved in such cases. CJA has the primary role in coordinating the training and guaranteeing the participation of the instructors.

We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented individual with significant experience in organizing training programs, particularly outside the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

Bilingual in Spanish and English;
BA or BS;
Experience as a project coordinator, preferably with specific experience organizing international conferences;
Experience working with individuals and organizations in the non-profit, government and academic sectors;
Familiarity with Latin America and the major political and historical developments in the region over the last 30 years;
Strong interpersonal skills, especially verbal communication skills over the phone and in person;
Exceptional attention to detail and excellent time-management skills; and,
Experience in human rights, journalism or political science is preferred

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
