Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has declared a state of emergency and has dissolved the Palestinian government, as Hamas seized control of Gaza yesterday, after days of ferocious gun battles. Middle East expert Richard Landes, a professor at Boston University, has just returned from an extended stay in the region and has intimate knowledge of the Gaza meltdown.

Richard Landes is a Professor of Medieval History at Boston University, the animator of The Second Draft, and blogger at The Augean Stables. He has analyzed a major dossier of forgeries around the dawn of the second millennium, and has turned his attention to the examining the conflict in the Middle East.
