Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for its Americas Associate position.


Description: The Associate will work closely with the Executive Director of the Americas Division, to maintain the Director’s calendar, make travel arrangements, reconcile expenses, coordinate press inquiries, assist with research, and draft correspondence. In addition, the Associate will provide critical administrative and clerical assistance to the Americas Division including, but not limited to, maintaining extensive files, contact lists and databases; maintaining communication among HRW's domestic and international offices and providing substantive, logistical and administrative assistance to field offices; preparing, formatting and distributing documents such as press releases, reports, op­eds, publications and web content; responding to requests for information in English and Spanish; assisting with research, electronic clippings, wires, and translations; assisting with advisory committee matters; assisting with special events, hiring, and training; drafting, translating and editing correspondence and other documents; assisting with travel arrangements and follow-up; recruiting and coordinating interns; recording departmental finances; word processing; photocopying; filing; faxing; answering phones; processing incoming mail; and other assigned tasks. Minimum 2-year commitment required.

Qualifications: The applicant must be self­motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. Oral and written fluency in both English and Spanish is required. S/he must be willing to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. Strong interest in international human rights, as well as a degree in International Relations and/or relevant regional or thematic study or experience is highly desirable. Candidates must have at least one year of office/administration experience, demonstrated organizational skills, and excellent computer skills. Applicants for this position must possess current U.S. work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.


Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at $33,532.
