DC: Bilingual (English-Spanish) Human Rights Advocate


The Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL) seeks a bilingual (Spanish/English) Human Rights Advocate to work on promoting and protecting human rights in the Americas by helping to strengthen the Inter-American System; the chosen candidate will also join our publications department. This position will be based in Washington, DC. Established in 1991 by a group of prominent Latin American human rights defenders, CEJIL is a regional organization that works to promote human rights throughout the Hemisphere through the effective use of the Inter-American System. Salary low 40's

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate, participate in, and support activities designed to strengthen civil society participation on human rights issues before the Organization of American States;
2. Design and lead training sessions and workshops about the Inter-American System;
3. Support our program of communications and publications; e.g. support the publications of our journal, reports, etc.;
4. Provide research, writing, editing of institutional documents, position papers, press releases, etc.;
5. Complete institutional responsibilities, such as writing Trip Reports and Work Plans, among others;
6. Assist with general administrative tasks;
7. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Additional Qualifications:
1. Master in International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Human Rights, or Law Degree;
2. Two years of advocacy experience, preferably at the international level;
3. Ability to write, edit, and communicate in Spanish;
4. Mastery of English;
5. Willingness to work in a multicultural environment and as part of a team;
6. Ability to work under pressure and develop and prioritize various projects at the same time;
7. Willingness to travel to Latin American countries.
