Administrative Assistant Position: The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) is seeking an Administrative Assistant for the Deputy Director for Policy. This motivated individual will be responsible for maintaining the Deputy Director's calendar and meeting schedule, assisting with briefing materials and meeting preparation, and providing general administrative support to the USCIRF's Policy Department, in addition to performing other office related tasks.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess a proficient working knowledge in Microsoft Office products, Internet researching, and database management, and be able to work in a fast paced environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, as well as a professional demeanor with a positive attitude are required. Responsible work experience in this field is an asset.

Policy Analyst
; Muslim World Countries: The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom is seeking a senior policy analyst with substantial experience in U.S. foreign policy, international human rights and/or religious freedom, particularly with respect to countries of the Muslim world.

Responsibilities include monitoring developments in U.S. foreign policy and conditions of freedom of thought, conscience, religion and/or belief around the globe; researching and drafting reports analyzing conditions of religious freedom and assessing U.S. policy with regard to promoting respect for human rights, including religious freedom; and developing policy recommendations for the U.S. government to promote religious freedom abroad and monitoring the implementation of those recommendations.

Substantial regional expertise in Muslim world countries (e.g., North and East Africa, the Middle East, South Asia) and experience with issues relating to the human rights challenges faced by countries of the Muslim world required. Language ability desirable. Knowledge of Islamic law and jurisprudence a plus.

International Legal Specialist: The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom is seeking an international legal specialist with substantial experience in international human rights law, including religious freedom and U.S. foreign policy.

Responsibilities include:

• Analysis of laws, policies and practices in foreign countries in comparison to international human rights treaty obligations and standards; • Comparative research on and analysis of the laws of foreign countries touching on freedom of religion or belief (e.g. constitutional protections on freedom of thought, conscience, religion and/or belief, laws requiring registration of religious organizations, laws on apostasy, blasphemy, and incitement to religious hatred); • Development of U.S. foreign policy recommendations to advance legal protections for freedom of conscience and related human rights and the rule of law in foreign countries; • Research and analysis on the implementation by government agencies of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998; and • Other legal research and writing on issues related to specific countries, U.S. foreign relations, international and U.S. refugee and asylum law, and international organizations.

Substantial legal experience with the application of international human rights law desirable. Regional expertise, language ability, and knowledge of U.S. refugee and asylum law a plus.
