Fiduciary Specialist - Genocide Internvention Network

:
Job Description:

The Fiduciary Specialist will be responsible for serving as the primary point of contact between GI-Net, affected fiduciaries, state legislators, affected companies, and related external asset managers.

• Contact with Fiduciaries: The Fiduciary Specialist will be required to communicate and explain the targeted Sudan divestment approach with fiduciaries and institutional asset managers. Communication will be via electronic mail, phone communication, and in-person meetings.
• Legislative Testimony: The Fiduciary Specialist will be required to travel and speak at key legislative hearings in support of targeted Sudan divestment legislation, with a special emphasis on the ways targeted Sudan divestment fits with financial prudence.
• Media Communication: The Fiduciary Specialist will communicate with media on fiscal policy as it relates to SDTF.
• Company Research and Communication: The Task Force presently performs research on companies that meet “targeted” divestment criteria. This research is the most specific and detailed research presently available and has been requested by over 500 fiduciaries with combined assets totaling over $1 trillion. The Fiduciary Specialist would help augment the SDTF research efforts and reach out to companies on the SDTF list to better understand their operations in Sudan and offer solutions for how to improve their corporate footprint.
• Contact with Asset Managers, Investment Consultants, and Third-Party Research Firms: As the SDTF model of divestment has rapidly spread, it is anticipated that the demand for investment products free of “targeted” companies will increase sharply in the near future. SDTF has begun making inroads with a wide range of asset managers, ranging from socially-responsible investing firms to Barclay’s Global. The Fiduciary Specialist will serve as one of the primary point persons in communicating the SDTF model to asset managers.

All employees of GI-Net must be committed, self-motivated professionals with the ability to work effectively independently and with a team. As we are committed to reaching out to a variety of (often disparate) parties (ranging from pension fund directors to legislators to companies to money managers), we value strong interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. Priority will be given to applicants who have a specific interest in the principles of shareholder responsibility and how to practically apply them in today’s global investment climate.

Candidates for the position of Fiduciary Specialist must have at least 1 year of experience in institutional or individual asset management, corporate governance, or a related field. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in melding the principles of financial prudence with those of shareholder responsibility. Strong analytical skills and willingness to performed detailed research will also be critical. Priority will be given to candidates who have an understanding of effective lobbying and financial/investment practices.
