US: 60 Minutes to air piece on Rwanda

Good afternoon. My name is Robin Sanders, and I work at CBS News.

I'm writing to tell you about an upcoming "60 MINUTES" piece set to air this Sunday, December 3, that I thought you might be interested in. It's the story of Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Rwandan woman who survived the genocide in her country 12 years ago, and has found it in her heart of forgive the man who murdered two of her relatives -- as well as the people who carried out the massacre of 800,000 members of her Tutsi tribe.

It's an inspiring tale of both horror and redemption, and Ilibagiza hopes that by sharing her story, she will be able to help prevent future atrocities.

We're trying to get word out about this story to as many people as possible, so it would be great if you would consider sending something out to your listserve and/or putting something on your web site. The piece will be broadcast on CBS stations at 7:00 ET/PT on Sunday, December 3. Further details and other information to be posted on our web site: http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/60minutes/main3415.shtml

"Hiding From Death"

The genocide in Rwanda 12 years ago was the most efficient ever carried out: 800,000 people were slaughtered in 100 days. Amongst the hundreds of thousands of Tutsis killed were Immaculee Ilibagiza's family and her entire village. To escape the same fate, she hid for three months with six others in a tiny bathroom in a minister's house. Yet remarkably, Ilibagiza has found it within herself to forgive the man who killed two of her relatives and would have killed her as well had he found her. Ilibagiza shares her incredible story of redemption and forgiveness with Bob Simon on this week's 60 MINUTES (Sunday, Dec. 3, 7PM ET/PT on CBS).
