Geneva: Advocacy Manager

The Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE) is an independent international non-governmental human rights organisation committed to ensuring the full enjoyment of the human right to adequate housing for everyone, everywhere. COHRE pursues this objective through reliance upon the full spectrum of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. COHRE wishes to hire an Advocacy Manager to head the COHRE Geneva Office and Advocacy Unit. The Advocacy Manager will be based in COHRE’s International Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. Starting date: immediate

The COHRE Advocacy Manager will:
Head the COHRE Geneva Office and COHRE Advocacy Unit
Coordinate COHRE Advocacy priorities and strategy
Manage COHRE consultants working under the Advocacy Unit
Carry out research, fact-finding missions, legal advocacy, housing rights training
Represent COHRE at United Nations and other international meetings
Assist with fundraising, budget development and other financial matters

Required Skills/Background:
A proven manager, who enjoys helping colleagues perform to the best of their potential
Legal background, preferably with a law or other advanced degree
6 or more years experience working in the human rights field
Very good knowledge of international human rights mechanisms
Experience with housing, displacement or eviction issues
Self-motivated, extremely well-organised and an excellent writer
Willingness (sometimes on short notice) to travel often, to all countries
Flexible and easy-going, but hard working and deeply committed
Excellent English, and preferably other languages including French or Spanish

Preferred Additional Skills/Experience:
Experience in working at the international level
Experience working with international and regional human rights mechanisms
