STAND Coalition IT Coordinator
The STAND Coalition is the student outreach division of the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net). STAND serves as an umbrella organization for 500 student groups active in promoting awareness, advocating for an end to the current genocide in Darfur, Sudan and working to create a permanent anti-genocide student movement.
The STAND Coalition is currently seeking a highly motivated student (undergraduate or graduate) with experience in online communications and website maintenance with a passion for human rights to serve as an IT Coordinator for the 2006-2007 academic school year. This individual will help develop, maintain, and troubleshoot for STAND’s website, which is currently in the process of being remodeled. This online advocacy should be seen as an opportunity to empower our members and STAND chapters with tools for education, advocacy, fundraising, and communication as well as furthering the organization’s publicity and development strategies. The STAND Coalition IT Coordinator will report to the Chief of Staff and Executive Director.
Job Description:
The STAND Coalition IT Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all of the following aspects of STAND’s Technology Department:
• Website Development and Maintenance: Promote strategies to engage STAND members, chapters, the media and the public at large through a current website with easily-accessible information on all organizational programs.
• Membership Support: Provide STAND’s membership with innovative tools and online support for education, fundraising and advocacy. Work with the respective departments to develop integrated online components to all aspects of STAND’s campaigns.
• Online Community-Building: Work closely with the membership department to develop and sustain the anti-genocide student constituency through the STAND website using social networking and other online tools. Aid members in meeting and working with one another so as to build and extend cohesion within the community.
• Oversee third-party IT support and web development and make recommendations on technology initiatives and consultancies.
• Aid all members and departments of STAND’s student-lead managing committee to develop and convert grassroots activism ideas and campaigns into online strategies such as newsletters, action alerts, and news briefs.

STAND is looking for a committed, self-motivated individual with the ability to work effectively independently and with a team. As we are committed to supporting a broad, active membership base, we value strong interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
As the first point of contact with all visitors to the website, the IT Coordinator must have strong communications skills. As the main point of contact for all technology questions within STAND, candidates must be excellent at working individually and with a team.
Candidates should possess a background in online communications, web development, and preferably design.
Candidates must be both creative with words and images and adept at base-level website programming. Candidates must have a strong background in standards- and accessibility-compliant HTML/XML and CSS. Experience with dynamic programming languages such as PHP is a plus. Some familiarity with databases, email listservs, and experience with CMSes, specifically Drupal, is highly valued.
Location and Compensation:
The STAND Coalition headquarters is located in Washington, DC but reaches out to an international constituency of anti-genocide student activists. This position will be off-site and can be filled from anywhere inside the United States by a student willing to spend at least 15-20 hours (fairly flexible) a week. Although the IT Coordinator is strictly a volunteer position, it should be noted that this is a unique opportunity for a student to gain invaluable experience working to develop online strategies and communication tools for an international, passionate, student-lead campaign against genocide.

STAND Coalition Intern
National STAND Coalition Intern
The National STAND Coalition is the student outreach division of the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net). STAND serves as an umbrella organization for 500 student groups active in promoting awareness, advocating for an end to the current genocide in Darfur, Sudan and working to create a permanent anti-genocide student movement.
STAND, in coordination with GI-Net, seeks a highly motivated and independent college student who is interested in having an active role assisting in the anti-genocide student movement. This person should be well organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment and have a desire to help develop STAND National as an organization. The internship will take place from 18 September 2006 to 1 December 2006. Start and end dates can be negotiated.
Job Description:
The STAND intern will primarily assist the Executive Director and STAND National Coordinator with the use of technological, administrative and developmental skills.
Specific duties will include:
• Development of a long term strategy for STAND National membership engagement
• Assistance in grant writing
• Strategic development and marketing
• Development and maintenance of http://www.STANDnow.org
• Database management
• Assisting the Executive Director and National Student Coordinator as needed
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have strong attention to detail, excellent writing skills, and strong oral communication skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks, work towards multiple goals, problem-solve and prioritize assignments is a must. Candidates should also have demonstrated creativity and flexibility. Most notably, candidates must have the ability to work independently and as a team member.
Priority will be given to candidates who have experience working with websites and/or databases (MS Excel, MS Access and QuickBooks are preferred). Applicants with a strong commitment to working with international issues are preferred.
Benefits:
All internships are unpaid; however interns receive $70/month in SmartBenefits to cover local transportation costs.
