Researcher EU Team ( France, Spain and other western EU countries)
Amnesty International needs a researcher as part of the International Secretariat to take the lead responsibility for initiating strategy and a programme of human rights research and action on France, Spain and other western countries of the European Union, by providing country expertise, research skills and sound political judgement.
Working as part of the EU Team, you will monitor, investigate and analyze political, legal and social developments and human rights conditions, give authoritative advice on these areas, investigate and document cases and patterns of human rights abuses; and produce country-based and thematic reports.
You will need proven research experience, first hand working experience or research knowledge of the relevant countries (particularly France and Spain), excellent understanding of human rights and sound political judgement.
In addition to your specialist country knowledge you will need an understanding of the cultures of the region, an understanding of the role played in the region by the European Union, impartiality, ability to think strategically and experience in working as part of a team. You will have proven research and writing skills and experience of analysing complex political and social situations, interviewing for information and summarizing research information into a concise and useable form. You will need the ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with other organisations and represent AI to the government and media.
Fluent written and spoken English, French and Spanish language is essential.

Africa Human Rights Defender
The Africa Programme of Amnesty International (AI), International Secretariat is seeking a dynamic person to fill the post of Africa Human Rights Defenders Coordinator based in AI’s Africa Regional Office in Kampala, Uganda.
As the Africa Human Rights Defenders Coordinator, you will coordinate AI’s program of work for the protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Africa. You will provide AI with expert advice on HRD issues, demonstrate sound political judgment and have strong campaigning skills. You will act as a focal point within the AI movement and with HRDs across Africa.
You will have good understanding of political sensitivities and human rights issues in Africa, derived from having lived or worked in the region for a substantial period of time. You will have substantial experience of working with HRDs in Africa, in particular on protection work and capacity building, as well as demonstrated specialist knowledge of human rights issues specific to HRDs and the protection of HRDs at risk.
Fluency in written and spoken English and French is essential. Knowledge of one other main language of the region is desirable

Campaigner Eastern Africa ( Based in Kampala, Uganda)
Using your campaigning and research skills and knowledge of Central and Eastern Africa regions respectively, you will act as a focal point for developing effective strategies and actions, mobilizing the worldwide Amnesty International (AI) membership to campaign against human rights violations. In particular you will provide expertise, advice and service to the membership in relation to action techniques and produce campaigning materials for them on these issues within the sub-region(s). You must have proven experience in campaigning and a broad knowledge of the sub-region you are applying for. Sensitivity to the cultures and peoples of the sub-region(s), understanding of membership organizations and interest in human rights are essential. Ability to work as part of self-managing split site team, often under pressure is also essential.
