London: Special Assistant to Executive Director

Amazing immediate opportunity to support the Co-Founder and Executive Director of an independent, non-political human rights organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of the human rights of all persons in the Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and elsewhere. The Kurdish Human Rights Project pioneered bringing the individual petition before the European Court of Human Rights. KHRP is a registered charity founded in London in 1992 working with its partner organisations in the regions. It functions as a catalyst for justice through its analysis, advocacy and action.


KHRP seeks an assistant who will provide administrative, logistical, and research assistance to the Executive Director, and occasionally the Deputy Director. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: assisting in writing and editing grant proposals; co-ordinating speaking engagements and special events; arranging meetings, travel, and accommodations; preparing speeches and presentations; maintaining the schedules of the Executive Director; conducting research as necessary; assisting with special projects; and maintaining organization and confidentiality of information and materials. Impeccable written and oral English grammar required. Conversational Kurdish desirable.
Specific Tasks include:
- Respond to and coordinate responses to inquiries for ED by mail, e-mail and phone;
- Maintain E.D’s diary and communicate to appropriate individuals;
- Draft, edit, and prepare correspondence from ED office;
- Prioritizes all incoming events inquiries for ED and manages travel schedule ;
- Assists with decision making on speaking invitations;
- Assists in negotiation of speaking contracts with events hosts;
- Manages logistics and choreography of speaking engagements for ED;
- Works with DD and ED and other relevant offices on fundraising events;
- Coordinates with press department to publicize events through the media;
- Coordinates with Development office for donor development;
- Acts as primary liaison to outside speaker agencies for ED;
- Assist in the drafting, writing, preparation and compilation of programme reports, grant proposals, financial reports, and other written materials;
- Coordinate program and organizational logistics, such as scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, etc.;
- Update database and contact lists for ED’s office, including data entry, reports and tracking, fundraising efforts, organizational partners, and others;
- Carry-out research for ED including analyzing and synthesizing key findings;
- Organize and maintain ED files;
- Work with Deputy Director, Administrator and other relevant offices to ensure smooth organisational communication;
- Prepare for and take minutes at meetings; and
- Other tasks and responsibilities as necessary, depending on skills and qualifications

Proven Research Skills

Strong editing skills including spelling, grammar and fluency in English

Professional demeanour when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone

Capacity to work in a high pressured environment while remaining calm

Ability to take initiative and prioritise tasks, excellent time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills

Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite

Willingness to travel in Europe, the US and the Kurdish regions


Highly Desirable:

Experience with conference planning a plus

Knowledge of or strong willingness to learn about IT

Legal background, highly desirable

Second Language relevant to Kurdish Regions – i.e. Kurdish, Turkish, Farsi, Arabic, Russian

Demonstrated interest/ commitment to human rights and/or charity work
