Reports to: AP Project Manager and HHR Executive Director.

Background:
Home for Human Rights (HHR) is one of Sri Lankas oldest and most respected human rights organization. It seeks to protect the fundamental freedoms of the people in Sri Lanka and prevent the violation of their rights as embodied in the Sri Lanka constitution, international covenants, conventions, treaties, institutions, and organizations. Additionally, HHR works with victims suffering displacement and discrimination due to caste, gender, war and the Asian tsunami. The AP intern would work primarily on the tsunami reconstruction project and the bulk of the duties would be in implementing a sustainable livelihoods assistance program. The Home for Human Rights would provide assistance in locating affordable housing and while the position is unpaid, the Advocacy Project can provide verification of work for funding.
Responsibilities:
Support the Home for Human Rights in establishing a sustainable vocational training program.
Develop strategic alliances with other NGOs working in Sri Lanka to ensure that the program is well integrated into and harmonized with standard methodologies.
Assist the Home for Human Rights in preparing financial and narrative reports to donors and the Advocacy Project.
Fundraise for maintenance of the project.
Qualifications:
Graduate coursework underway or completed in International Relations, Human Rights, International Communications, or a related field.
Knowledge of the technical, managerial, logistical and other aspects of provision of livelihoods assistance solutions for people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies.
Experience in co-ordination and networking with NGOs in project development.
Knowledge of existing good practice and current issues in vocational training and livelihood assistance issues.
Proven initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm in responding to changing priorities and tight deadlines.
Inter-personal skills and cultural sensitivity required.
Excellent computer skills.
Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.
