About HRIC
HRIC was founded by Chinese students and scholars in March 1989. Its mission is to promote universally recognized human rights and advance the institutional protection of these rights in the People's Republic of China (China).
HRIC's approach is a long-term process of engaging multiple international actors, including the media, governments, corporations, various United Nations bodies, and other multilateral organizations. HRIC also aims to maximize and leverage its resources by collaborating with other local, regional, and international NGOs.

Responsibilities
The E-Activism/Web Developer will be responsible for development of HRIC's Chinese-language web initiatives, ranging from entire Web sites to stand-alone interactive features. She/he will work closely with advocacy staff in the New York office and report directly to the Director of IT.
This is an ideal position for a creative, multilingual individual who enjoys strategizing and developing innovative online projects.
Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must be committed to HRIC's mission and interested in working in a high-energy, collaborative NGO that insists on the highest professional and public-interest standards.
• Technical:
o The candidate must have at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience in designing and developing dynamic Chinese-language Web sites, in resolving Simplified/Traditional Chinese encoding issues, and using open source databases;
o The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a variety of open source web development technologies, including content management systems, and will be able to effectively research and present recommendations and proposals;
o The ideal candidate will have experience in user interface design, in online interactive technologies, including Macromedia Flash, and an interest in visual design;
• Language: The candidate must have native fluency in Chinese (Mandarin), both spoken and written (Simplified and Traditional), and also be fluent in English;
• Other: The candidate must be well-organized, detail-oriented, co-operative, and a self-starter who is comfortable handling multiple tasks. She/he must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in speaking and in writing.
