HRC has 2 internship openings. A legal and a communications one, both directed to college/law students and recent graduates.
Legal Internship
HRIC’s internships offer direct and in-depth exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, domestic and international advocacy work, and participation in HRIC’s projects, research and briefings. Interns selected become an integral part of the culture and work of our organization.
HRIC offers several opportunities for on-site internships for law students or graduate students with an international law or development background. Under the supervision of the Law Program Officer, law interns will work on current HRIC projects that require a combination of field, legal and web research, and analytical writing for various audiences, such as the public, media, or supervising staff at HRIC.
Recent projects have required a combination of research and advocacy work on issues such as Chinese domestic law reform; international human rights and trade law linkages; China’s accession to the WTO; the right to health in rural China; US anti-spam legislation and the impact it has on freedom of expression and the right to information, and; the human rights advocacy opportunities presented by the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Applicants should enjoy working in a friendly and casual office environment that insists upon the highest professional standards and ethics. Interns are expected to make a commitment for the duration of the semester, or for ten weeks during the summer. The supervisor and intern will set up the intern’s weekly schedule at the start of the internship. Internships are unpaid though interns receive a small transportation stipend. Depending upon the requirements of the intern’s home institution, academic credit for the internship may be arranged.
