The Center for Constitutional Rights is a non-profit legal and educational organization dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For nearly 40 years, CCR has fought segregation and racial profiling, made important contributions to the battle for abortion rights and the rights of victims of domestic violence, held oil companies and other corporations accountable for human rights abuses, and led key challenges to the government's policies on Guantánamo, arbitrary detention, torture, the Patriot Act and unchecked Executive authority post-9/11.
The Center for Constitutional Rights is looking for a full-time temporary writer and editor for approximately three months. This position will work closely with CCR’s outside public relations consultants, the Education and Outreach Coordinator, and the Center’s directors.
Job Responsibilities:
• Write and proof press releases, statements, copy for the web, brochures and other materials, as well as letters to the editor and op-eds as needed.
• Work with attorneys and staff to identify press opportunity.
• Create new and innovative press campaigns.
• Craft messages to resonate with the public in a clear, non-legalistic way.
• Speak with reporters about cases.
• Help with press work and scheduling interviews.
Additional Qualifications:
• A belief in the mission of the Center for Constitutional Rights and familiarity with the issues central to the Center’s work.
• Superior writing skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work gracefully under tight deadlines.
• At least 2 years related experience. Previous experience with a legal organization or other progressive non-profit preferred.
• Excellent communications skills working with a wide variety of people.
• Integrity and a sense of humor.
