The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a national initiative, Denounce Torture at Home and Abroad (Denounce Torture). The incumbent will design and implement a national strategy to educate the public about torture and mobilize communities to take action against torture. S/he will also leverage work with those communities and new constituencies into coalitions that will work to denounce torture. The PM will coordinate the work of an interdepartmental team representing Regional Offices, Government Relations, International Justice, Domestic Human Rights, Media Relations, Human Rights Education and New Media, ensuring the strategic deployment of organizational resources. The PM is responsible for all program design, management and evaluation. This position is based in Washington, DC and is a one year, fixed-term position.
Additional Qualifications:
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in project management, including organizing grassroots constituencies with progressively increasing roles and responsibility. Thorough knowledge of and or work experience with international human rights standards related to torture to which the United States is a party is strongly preferred. These include the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (the Torture Convention), and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Experience with program design, strategic planning, program and evaluation. Must have the capacity to apply leadership and management skills to a newly formed initiative. Demonstrated teambuilding skills and experience in working in coalition.
