New Delhi: Deputy Director

Deputy Director

The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) is looking for a Deputy Director, to be based at the Headquarters in New Delhi, India. CHRI is an independent, non-partisan, international non-governmental organisation working for the practical realization of human rights in the countries of the Commonwealth. CHRI is an advocacy organisation, focusing on systemic human rights issues related to Access to Information and Access to Justice. The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years experience with a firm and proven commitment to human rights and social justice. S/he should be able to shoulder the Director’s responsibility when needed and to act independently as well as part of a team. Should have experience of human rights advocacy at Commonwealth/international or regional level.

TASKS

? Assisting the Director in guiding the senior programme and management team on all financial matters, operational issues and staff development priorities and making timely decisions on all matters of management and administration.

? Providing creative input into the development and completion of CHRI’s research, policy analysis and public education agenda and working closely with the Director in refining the quality of organisation’s output.

? Overseeing programmes, including planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

? Assisting the Director in the fund-raising efforts, which includes solicitation of grants from foundations, individuals, governments and UN agencies; and ensuring all donor requirements as outlined in agreements between CHRI and donors are met.

? Represent CHRI at a senior level, including building and maintaining strong partnerships, coalitions and collaborations with external organisations and groups.

? Overseing and mentoring staff to achieve programme and organizational goals

? Assisting the Director in overseeing the functions of London and Africa offices, and other country offices that may open in future.

? Liaising with sponsoring organisations and CHRI’s governance bodies.

? Day to day troubleshooting and handling organisational matters.


REQUIREMENTS

A post graduate degree in relevant area (law, social science etc.), along with a minimum of 5 years experience in same or similar field. Excellent communication skills, computer skills, knowledge and experience in human rights and strong leadership qualities are required.

The Deputy Director must be a proven leader with knowledge of human rights and issues and their impact on domestic and international communities. S/he must be able to define and articulate the mission of the organisation and lead others in contributing to its realisation, while also possessing the managerial skills necessary to carry out the organisation’s priorities. S/he must be a strategic and global thinker, capable of leading and bringing out the best from an excellent staff. High levels of energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the mission of CHRI are essential.

COMPENSATION
The position is based in New Delhi, India and the candidate must be prepared to relocate. CHRI’s policy is to pay local salaries for all positions however international applicants should be aware that this salary in rupees is competitive and offers a good standard of living in Delhi. Compensation and benefits are dependent on professional background, experience and family situation, however the expected benefits are:

Salary range: USD 9,000 -13,000 per annum payable in Indian rupees.
Accomodation: subsidised accomodation can be negotiated
Airfares: One economy class airfare to/from country of residence at start and end of contract.
Insurance: Accident - USD 4545; Hospitalisation in India - USD2272
Medical Reimbursement: USD 140 per annum

Contract period – three years
