Africa Action is accepting applications for the position of Executive Director to run the leading national organization focused on U.S. Africa relations. Africa Action’s current campaigns aim to influence U.S. foreign policy to end genocide in Darfur, Sudan; increase access to treatment for people with HIV/AIDS in Africa; and achieve the cancellation of the illegitimate debts of African nations.
Africa Action is the oldest advocacy organization on Africa in the United States (founded in 1953). The Washington, DC-based nonprofit is seeking an experienced and capable full-time Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of Africa Action, including programs, fundraising and operations. Provides the organization with vision, inspiration, direction and a clear sense of mission and values. Ensures the financial stability of the organization. Works with the board to define and establish the organization’s long-range goals and is responsible for developing and implementing the strategies to achieve those goals. The Executive Director is also responsible for the organization’s policy development, fiscal management, and public relations. Supervises all staff in the short-term implementation of work plans. This is a full-time position, hired by and directly accountable to the board of directors.
